Difference Between Sleep and Hibernate
But some people get confused between sleep mode and hibernate mode, Let me clear the difference between sleep and hibernate.
Sleep mode saves your current session to RAM and puts Windows in a low-power state. When you’re ready to resume, you can jump back into action almost instantly right where you left off. This mode is best when you’re taking a short break from using your PC.
Hibernation goes one step further. Instead of storing your session in RAM (which will be lost if your battery dies), hibernation saves it to your hard drive temporarily and then shuts down. With hibernation, you could unplug your desktop for a week, plug it back in, and then resume right where you left off.
Sleep mode saves data on RAM which is more faster than HDD. That’s why you may notice Windows 10 wake up from sleep mode faster compared to Hibernation mode.
Sleep mode is a good choice if you are moving from a few minutes break. instead of close opened windows or shut down the PC you can put it sleep mode to continue where you left. Where Hibernation is a good choice if you don’t plan on using your computer for a long time or need to save your session without worrying about your machine’s battery dying. Enable hibernate in windows 10
By default Hibernate option is not enabled on Windows 10. Or for some reason Microsoft has removed the hibernate option form power menu. But its easy to enable hibernate on Windows 10. Let’s follow the steps below.
Enable hibernate form power options
- Open control panel,
- Search for and select power options,
- here From the left column select Choose what the power buttons do.
- Now on System Settings window, you will see the options Turn on Fast Startup, Sleep, Hibernate and lock under shutdown settings.
- If options are grayed out, select Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Here check the Hibernate box and click save changes.
Now when you open the Start menu and select the Power button, the Hibernate option will be available.
Disable Hibernate option On windows 10
- You can disable the Hibernate option any time by following the same process.
- simply uncheck the Hibernate option
Enable Hibernate option Using Command Prompt
Using the Command prompt enable the Hibernate option is very simple way. you just want to Type one command line and Hit the Enter key to active the Hibernate option. Here fallow to do.
- Open Command prompt as administrator,
- type command powercfg -h on and press enter key.
- After that you won’t see any confirmation of success but you should see an error If it doe’s not worked for any Reason.
- Now when you select the power options you will see on power configuration entry have a Hibernate option.
- And to disable the Hibernate option use command powercfg -h off
