Also With Windows 10 update version 21H2 Microsoft edge receive huge improvements as well. While the web browser works quite alright without major problems. And this is much better compared to internet explorer. But sometimes Windows 10 users reported Microsoft edge not working gets constantly crashing not responding, slow performance, or simply it won’t launch after clicking on the logo.

Microsoft Edge not working
Note: Using this guide might cause you to lose your favorites, history, and settings. Before you move forward, it’s recommended that you perform a full backup or create a system restore point. So that in case something goes wrong and to need to restore your last good known state of Windows 10.
Install any pending updates on the PC to check, if that helps.
- Press Windows + I to open the Settings app,
- Click on Update & Security then windows update-
- Finally hit the check for updates
Note: Windows Updates are additions to software that can help prevent or fix problems, improve how your computer works, or enhance your computing experience.
Most of the time, all Browsers start to misbehave when the browsing data get corrupt. So that same thing with Microsoft Edge not opening its getting not responding, Crashes, hangs or closes there may be chance browser history, cache, may be corrupted.
Simply Run The free System optimizer like Ccleaner to clean up them with one click or you can manually clear them from Edge browser settings. Now After that Close Microsoft Edge, restart your PC, and then relaunch Microsoft Edge to see if the trick worked.
Disable / Uninstall Extensions
Also if you have installed a number of Edge Browser extensions, Sometimes this also causes a problem on the Edge browser. We recommend To Disable all installed browser plugins and check the edge working fine.
To Disable or Uninstall Edge Browser Extensions open Edge Browser. Click on the three dots icon (…) located just below the close button and then click Extensions. This will display All installed Edge Extension. Click on the name of an extension to see its settings, Click the Turn off the option to turn off the extension. Do The same with other extensions, Then Restart Edge Browser to Check to load smoothly. If not try to uninstall the extension To completely Remove the Extension.
Reset/Repair Edge Browser
If the Above methods Failed to fix the Edge Browser problem Then We recommend To first use the Repair option Which checks and Fix all Basic Edge Browser Related problems. Or If the Repair option does not fixes your problem then Use the Reset opinion to Reset the Browser its Default Settings.
To perform Repair Or Reset Edge Browser First open Settings -> then Navigate to Apps > Apps & features, Click on Microsoft Edge you will see Advanced options link, Click On it. A new pop window will open, here click on the Reset option As shown Bellow image. After That Restart windows and check Edge Browser working normally. If not Then Use the Reset option to Reset Edge browser settings to Default and give a fresh start with Restart the windows.
Re-register Microsoft Edge Browser
If all the above methods failed to fix them simply Re-register the Microsoft Edge by performing the steps below. For better results, We recommend to Restart and Start windows 10 into Safe mode with Networking. Now Open File Explorer click on View. Then Tick a mark on the Hidden Items box to see all Hidden files and folders.
If Edge Browser opens first close it. Now Navigate to this path: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe
(Make sure to replace %username% with the username that you use on your computer )
Now Right click on Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe folder select properties. Here remove the checkmark Read-only. Click Apply to make save changes. Now-Again Right click on Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe folder and now this time Select Delete. If the confirmation prompt opens click on yes. After Complete the deletion process Close the explorer.
Now here we’re going to re-register Microsoft Edge in your account. for this Open the Power Shell. To do on the Start menu, search for Windows Power Shell, right-click it from the result, and select Run as administrator. Now Copy the following code and past it on the power shell and hit the enter key to execute the command.
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml” -Verbose}
Once the process has been successfully completed, you would see a message similar to as shown above image. That’s all. Restart windows Into normal Startup and open Microsoft Edge. Now It will Run without any issue.
Try Different User Account
If the problem still persists, then I suggest you add another Microsoft account / Create a new user account by following the steps mentioned below and see if the problem persists:
To do this navigate to Settings/>Accounts/>Your Account/> Family & other users.
On the right pane, click Add someone else to this PC under Other users. If you have another Microsoft account try to use that or else follow the steps to sign-up for new and switch to a new Microsoft account. Sign-out from the old one and log in with a new Microsoft account. Once you’re sign-in with a new User Profile, then please workaround and check if it helps you.
If you don’t have a Microsoft account simply open the command prompt as administrator. Type net user username password /add
Note: Replace username = your username, Password = password for the user account.
Now Logoff From Current Account and log in with New created User account And open the Edge Browser check working normally without any error.
Tweak Windows registry to fix Edge Browser
First open Windows Registry editor from press Win + R and type Regedit.exe hit the enter key. When the registry window opens Backup registry database and negative to the following :
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppContainer\Storage\microsoft.microsoftedge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\Children
Here Expand the Children and delete all subkeys. As shown below. Note: Do not delete the children’s key.
After done simply close the registry windows and Restart the windows. Now Check Microsoft Edge will Run without any problems.
