Fix Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service

System File Checker or SFC is a utility located in C: Windows\System32 folder in Windows 10 , 8.1 and 7.  Which allows users to scan and restore corruptions in Windows system files. This sfc /scannow tool easily detect any corrupted files and the missing contents of file. But sometimes due to the improper service running behind the Windows Module Installer. Or any other reason while running this tool you may receive one of the following error. Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service. windows resource protection found corrupt files, windows resource protection found integrity violations Or this error may be like Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation. And the tool will not be able to run or complete its scanning and repair process successfully.

The main reason of the error is that Trusted Installer or the Windows Module Installer service is not enabled. If this service is not running on your computer then you have to fix Windows resource protection could not start the repair service by enabling this service in order to use System file checker.

If you are trying to open system file checker or sfc /scannow on your computer. And are receiving Windows resource protection could not start the repair service. Then don’t worry here we have some tips to fix this Error.

Make sure Windows Module installer service is running 

The main reason of the error is that Trusted Installer or the Windows Module Installer service is not enabled or not running. If this service is not running on your computer then you may face this problem. lets fallow bellow the steps to start the Windows Module Installer service.

First press Win + R key on keyboard and type services.msc and press OK.

This will open the services window. now scroll down and select Windows Modules Installer service. Right click on it and select properties. As shown bellow picture.

Now under Windows Modules Installer properties change the startup type to automatic. and if the service is not running click on start the service. after make changes click apply and ok.

Note : if the service is already running just right click and stop the service and again restart the service.
close the services window and perform the System File Checker utility if you still face the error fallow the next step.

Use commands to fix Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service error

After performing above method if problem not fixed for you then don’t worry. We have one more tip to fix this issue using command to do this fallow bellow steps.

First open command prompt ( admin) on start menu search type CMD, when command prompt appear right click on it and run as administrator.

If the user account control prompt ask to allow the program to run click on yes. Now when the command prompt screen open type command below and hit enter key to execute the command.

sc config trustedinstaller start=auto

you should get a Success message like “[SC] ChangeServiceConfig SUCCESS” as shown in below

Now Press next Command shown bellow and press enter key.

net start trustedinstaller

After execute the command you will got a message the windows modules installer service was started successfully. Now that’s it exit the command prompt and run the System File Checker or SFC /scannow utility.
